  Ramachandraya janaka

(Sri Raamadaasu Keertana)

Ramachandraya janaka lyrics in English with meaning: This’s a very popular keertana by Sri Raamadaasu praising the different characteristics of Lord Sri Raama, written in the Sanskrit language.

Kancharla Gopanna popularly known as Bhakta Raamadaasu or Bhadraachala Raamadaasu, was a 17th century devotee of Lord Sri Raama, a saint-poet and a composer of Carnatic  music.

He’s a famous Vaaggeyakaara (classical composer – one who composes text as well as  music) from the Telugu classical era.

He was born in the village of Nelakondapalli in the Khammam district and was orphaned as a teenager. He spent his later years in Bhadraachalam and twelve years in solitary confinement at the Golconda prison during the Qutb Shahi rule.

Different mythical stories about his life circulate in the Telugu tradition.

He’s renowned for constructing the famous Sitaaraamachandra Swami temple and pilgrimage center on the banks of river Godavari at Bhadraachalam.

His devotional keertana lyrics to Lord Raama illustrate the classical Pallavi, Anupallavi, and CharaNam genres composed mostly in Telugu, some in Sanskrit, and with the occasional use of Tamil language.

These keertanas are famous in South Indian classical  music as Sri Raamadaasu Keertanalu.

One of the trinity of Carnatic Classical  Music Sri Tyaagaraaja Swami dedicated five of his own  compositions in praise of Sri Raamadaasu, with one equating him to figures such as the Narada Muni and Bhakta Prahlaada, legendary and much loved personalities in Hinduism.
