Thirukachi Nambi Stories – Ardent Devotee Of Kanchipuram Varadaraja Perumal – Miracles

Thirukachi Nambi was a staunch devotee of Bhagavan Varadaraja Perumal who is worshipped at the Kanchipuram Varadaraja temple. The shrine is one of the 108 Divya Desams. Here is a collection of Thirukachi Nambi stories and they are miracles that happened in the Kanchipuram Varadaraja temple.

The intense and unparalleled devotion of Thirukachi Nambi was such that Bhagavan Varadaraja Perumal used to give darshan to Nambi in private and used to converse with him in Kanchipuram Varadaraja temple.

Thirukachi Nambi, also known as Kanchipura or Sri Kanchi Muni, was an incarnation of Vishwaksena, the commander-in-chief of Bhagavan Mahavishnu in Vaikunta.

Legend has it that every evening after the Kanchipuram Varadarajar temple was closed and all the priests had left, Bhagavan Vardarajar Perumal would take a stroll at the Vaiya Maligai corridor in the temple complex. Bhagavan asked Thirukachi Nambi to stay back and fan him while he walked. When Bhagavan finished his walking the temple doors would automatically close and Thirukachi Nambi would leave the temple complex.

Once when the temple priests offered a naivedyam of Shakkari Pongal, a sound from the sky asked everyone to leave the shrine except for Thirukachi Nambi. When no one was around, Bhagavan Vardarajar Perumal asked Thirukachi Nambi to feed him with his hands. Bhagavan ate all the Shakkari Pongal on the day. When the priests came back later, they found the naivedya vessel to be empty. They saw traces of Shakkari Pongal on the hand of Thirukachi Nambi. The priests accused Nambi of eating the pongal meant for Bhagavan. This brought disrepute to the Thirukachi Nambi.

That night Bhagavan Vardarajar Perumal came in the dream of a devotee and demanded for a thousand vessels of shakkarai pongal and asked the pongal should be left in the temple complex and only Thirukachi Nambi should remain in the temple. The devotee performed the offering as directed by Bhagavan Vardarajar Perumal. The priests and the devotee returned after a while and all they could see was empty vessels. It was impossible for a man to eat 100o vessels of shakkarai pongal. People realized that Thirukachi Nambi had actually fed Bhagavan Vardarajar Perumal.
